First of all I need help from all the young moms' out there in Blogland. My little momma-to-be has suddenly developed morning sickness, actually, all day long sickness. It's been a looooooooong time for Granniebelle-to-be, (and, keep my secret....I threw up once, yes one time in five pregnancies. I know, you want to slap me).So, I really am not a whole lot of help with this one. What is your best remedy for getting through the day? Please share.
You know this look? The one that says "ugh...I feel like poo-poo and you're going to have to scrape me off this couch."? Can you help?
Second, are you sitting down?
No, I'm not pregnant too. I know that's the first thing that entered your mind Khandrea.....
But it's equally as miraculous, honest.
I said "no" today.
Really.
Someone asked me to be in charge of something, and I said 'no'.
First time for everything.....
And you can teach an old dog new tricks.
Feels good, liberating.
I think the first time is the hardest. I'll let you know for sure.
Just about ready to get that "sucker" tattoo off my forehead.

Eat ALL DAY LONG. I found, if you even set your alarm for like, 4am, go eat a bowl of oatmeal or something so that you never have an empty stomach. Even having crackers by your bed first thing did nothing for me, because it had already been 8 or 9 hours since I'd eaten last. I hate nausea. I had it really badly.
Also, when you can think of ANYTHING that sounds good, eat as much of it as possible. I don't know, it helped me, because i didn't know when the next time I'd come across a food that didn't make me want to die again.
I've got nothin for the nausea but congratulations on saying no. I'm so good at it that no one asks me to do anything anymore.
In this day and age, there is medicine for that kind of nausea. She should ask her dr.
I like AnnEE's comment. I found that eating teeny snacks round the clock (even when I didn't feel like it) made the difference.
*SLAP*...heh, heh, heh, I am totally kidding...
Eating little bits all day long helped. Also, tart fruit (plums, nectarines) helped me, especially green apples. Somehow it quelled my nausea. I would eat Lemon Heads candy and suck on sweet tarts. I even ate real lemons with a bit of salt.
All of the things the doctor told me I tried and didn't work...but they may for Lauren. I ate straight ginger...some people said it helped but it didn't help me. Some people say taking B-12 helps...it didn't for me, though.
There is Zofran, now...which many people say helps more than anything else. I have heard many people say that it is a miracle.
And CONGRATS for saying, "No." I know it is hard...I am not very good at that.
Zofran was the only thing that took the edge off for me-- and now they have generic, so you aren't paying $800 for a bottle. (literally)
I also had to eat every 2 hours even at night. My stomach was WAY worse when it was emptly. It took me a while to figure out what would not make me sicker. She will have to experiment. My staple was bread and milk.
I feel for her!!! I was sick for 25 weeks and thought I would die.
GREAT job saying no!! :)
I just hit 14 1/2 weeks...and the last week and a half has been pure bliss. Until then, I was miserable. While nothing ever made it all the way better, (like others here have said) I ate all the time. But snacking didn't work for me...I just had to be completely full all day long.
I tried everything the doc said: ginger, b6 (although I never mixed it with original unisom like they said to try...I have other kids to take care of, afterall!), crackers before I wake up...never did the Zofran...but my SIL swears by it.
Good luck to Lauren...hope she finds something that works for her!
i feel like i should post anonymously here, since i never threw up during any of my pregnancies. and my three labors were 5 hours, 1 hour, and ten minutes, repsectively. and i gained like 20 pounds, most of which i lost during delivery. no joke. i usually bow out of the pregnancy-woes conversations, lest i leave them spurned and despised.
but congrats on your pregnancy! oh, wait. you know me too well. obviously you're not pregnant, if you're just saying no these days.
good stuff.
Little BLAND snacks throughout the day (saltines, pretzles, bread), sucking on jolly ranchers or life savers helped a little, too. It just plain sucks to feel like that.
YAY!! for you on saying NO!!! Isn't it the best feeling? I'm afraid I've gotten a little too good at it...
Poor thing I feel her pain. TAlk to her Dr. they have meds fro that but I've found this round peanut butter in the morning helps. Either a piece of toast with peanut butter or a big ole' spoon with peanut butter and just like away!!!!
Never got sick. Sorry.
I am so proud of your for saying no! Did you feel guilt?
Sorry, I got nothin' for the sickness-I too was a happy pregnant snob. WOOHOO!!! Cangrats to the big NO!!! Doesn't it feel great? You should get that Just Say No sticker tatooed on your forehead now.
I only threw up once with Madison! But, I heard if you wear those wrist bands with the little ball that hits a pressure point you'll feel a little better. You know the ones that you wear on cruises or driving long distances. Poor Lo! So, are we having a Girl?!
Good for you!!
Nothing really helps but laying down watching chick flicks. She should enjoy her morning sickness now while she doesn't have other children to attend to while having morning sickness.
I totally feel for her. I'm sick as a dog all day long too...for months!!
Sorry about the sicky, I just tried to live through it. It did help to eat, gained 83 pounds with #1 that I carry to this day.
And about saying NO, it's the beauty of being AlMOST 50 baby!Keep practicing, felt good didn't it?
I didn't get terribly sick, just felt kinda car sick for the first ten weeks. I sucked on atomic fire balls. They REALLY worked for me. I despise them not pregnant but LOVE them while pregnant. The mini ones are best.
Will you e-mail me Lo and Skylers address? THX.
And WAY TO GO on saying No! Congrats. Now, keep it up!
I'm feeling nauseated just thinking about my pregnancies. Like everyone else's comments, keep your tummy full. Crackers helped the most with me. Keep a stash on you, at all times. Certain smells may set off the nausea. For my first pregnancy, I believed my Christmas tree smelled rotten. Go figure. We had to take it down, because every time I walked by it, I became ill.
There are also these things called Pregnancy Pops. Baby's R Us sells them. They are basically suckers. But crackers, by far, helped the most.
I'm so impressed with standing up for yourself and saying, "NO!" Keep it up!
On my drives home from work I would hum or sing to avoid spew-age. It kind of worked. Avoid long road trips ;)
One of my two spews happened in the car. Britton made me hang my head out the window which left a nice trail on the outside of the car.
Renee, isn't there a story about CLark spewing out a window? I think the moral is that driving with Britton makes you sick?
I feel for her, I really do! With both of my pregnancies I was sick from day one and as soon as I hit 14 weeks BAM, it was gone. I'll pray that she gets relief soon! Sucking on Jolly Ranchers and sipping on Sprite worked for me. I never would accept the prescription from the Dr because I'm paranoid about taking any kind of meds during pregnancy. Also, I found that taking my prenatal at night instead of in the morning helped A LOT! With my second child, the ONLY foods I could stomach in the morning was a custard donut and a glass of chocolate milk ~ Every morning for breakfast and I only gained 24 lbs!!! :)
I hope Lauren gets to feeling better soon!
all these people that never got sick, BAH. BAH on you and your non nervous tummies.
I have no suggestions because I got sicker and sicker and sicker until my doctor's finally took the little buggers out.
I vote you ask for Zofran.
Ooh, and my sister is preggo sick and she just got a Zofran pump. That way she has medicine administered all the time. (There's a little tube in her leg)
For morning sickness this is what worked for me... 300 mg of B6 per day (100 morning, noon & night), 1/2 a unisom 2 or 3 times a day, hard candy (whatever tastes good), and don't eat anything you don't want to have come back up. I also found that certain foods made my morning sickness worse... like citrus (Orange juice was terrible). Also, I traded out my prenatals for Flintstone's vitamins after 12 weeks, and that helped a ton. I didn't start to show for a while, but maternity clothes were great to ease the sick too since it kept me from having anything across my belly.
I can't believe no one has mentioned phenergan. It's the bomb. It's the only thing that worked for me. It's cheap and powerful (but probably not as powerful as zofran).
Mine always lasted until week 16 and then boom... over.
i never found anything that total took the sickness away. but slurpees and icees were my constant companions. and lots of TV. oh, and sleeping as much as possible...being unconscious during the missery helps.
I can't help with the nausea thing but I do know that she should be taking advantage of sick time to have her husband help her out with cleaning, dishes, errands, etc. Don't be a hero and try to do everything you usually do; let yourself get spoiled. I was a "hero" and now I get barely any extra pampering from my husband when I am pregnant. I should have hammed it up a lot more.
Nancy Reagan would be so proud of your ability to say no.
thank you everyone for all the advice!! anything is worth giving a try!
Trader Joe's ginger snaps. And a few more Trader Joe's ginger snaps. And just in case you start feeling a little more queezy . . . TJ's ginger snaps.
I puked multiple times a day every day for nine months for two of my pregnancies. I have tried every remedy ever suggested to me, and a few of them actually helped. My two favorites:
Unisom and B6 (has to be the unisom tablets with doxylamine)
Accupuncture - I know it sounds crazy, but it took me from puking 5-6 times a day to just puking once a day. I could actually live with that.
Avoid strong smells like the plague. Get rid of shampoos, soaps, cleaners, etc that bother her.
hi. I'm a blog stalker :) and Nancy Hale's sis-in-law. Saw this post and just had to comment!
With my first pregnancy I was sick all day and throwing up multiple times a day and losing weight. In my second trimester I went to the ER for dehydration and was diagnosed with "hyperemisis." Basically it means way too much barfing and it doesn't go away until the baby comes out. I was given Phenergan and was still miserable the whole time, but a tiny bit better. Second pregnancy, same story. This time got Zofran and B6 and Unisom. So much better! If your daughter is puking too much and not keeping down much fluids, seriously talk to a doctor who knows about hyperemisis pronto! With my first pregnancy, I never told the DR that my "morning sickness" was that bad because I thought that was "normal" and would go away soon. So wrong! The sooner you get it under control, the better.
So sorry to hear she is sick! Congrats!
PS thanks for hiring Nancy to do Lauren's wedding last year-because of you, she was able to come to my baby blessing! :)
